What is Aqualyx?

Aqualyx is a fat loss treatment which helps to dissolve fat deposits resistant to diet and exercise. This is achieved using a series of injections of a gel based solution (aqualyx) without the need for surgery. The solution is biodegradable. It was developed by Professor Motolese and is produced by the Italian manufacturer Marllor.Aqualyx is the only injectable fat treatment with CE approval for use in the UK and must be administered by a trained doctor.

How does Aqualyx work?

Our bodies produce a bile acid in the liver called desoxycholan- acid which breaks down fat. Aqualyx is a gel based solution that contains this bile acid by making the fat cells unstable and so dissolving the fat.The treatment is injected into areas of resistant fatty tissue, it destroys fat cells which are then transported to the liver and excreted through the kidneys.

What is the procedure?

The solution is injected into the fat through a special cannula. On average 2 insertion or injection sites are needed with the amount of product injected into each site dependent on the area of fat being treated. The treatment is relatively painless with redness, slight swelling, slight burning, itching and a warm sensation at the treated area generally lasting 1-3 days .A local anaesthetic can also be added to the product to improve patient comfort further during the procedure.

Who can be treated with Aqualyx?

Aqualyx gives the best results in patients with adequate weight or slightly overweight with areas of fatty deposits which do not respond to diet and exercise.

Which areas can be treated?

Aqualyx can be used over the whole body for dissolution of resistant fat deposits and body shaping.

On average 3-6 sessions every 3-4 weeks are recommended to give the best results. Results are usually visible during this time. The results are permanent provided you follow a good diet and exercise regime.

A treatment with aqualyx does not result in weight loss it is a body shaping treatment to remove stubborn areas of fat.
